Privacy & cookies

What we collect, why we collect it, and the control you have over it.

Who we are

  • HireOne is a UK marketplace connecting homeowners with verified tradespeople, operated by stnikens ltd.
  • We are the data controller for the personal information described on this page. Contact us through the contact page for any privacy request.

What we collect

  • Account details: your name, email address, phone number and the type of account you hold.
  • Job details: the description, photographs, budget and location of work you post.
  • Trade details: business name, service areas, insurance and identity documents submitted for verification.
  • Payment records: amounts, milestone status and payment references. Card details are handled by Stripe and never stored by us.
  • Usage data: pages viewed and basic device information, used to keep the service secure and working.

Why we use it

  • To match jobs with suitable trades and let both sides message each other.
  • To verify trades, run Trust Scores and protect everyone from fraud.
  • To hold and release milestone payments, raise invoices and resolve disputes.
  • To send service emails about quotes, messages and payments. Marketing emails only go out if you opt in.

Who we share it with

  • The other party in a job: a homeowner sees the quoting trade's business details, and an accepted trade sees the homeowner's contact details. Contact details are never public.
  • Stripe for payments, Resend for email delivery, and our hosting and database providers.
  • Authorities or insurers where we are legally required to do so.
  • We never sell your personal data.

How long we keep it

  • Account and job records: for as long as your account is open, then up to six years for tax, warranty and dispute purposes.
  • Verification documents: for the life of the verification plus twelve months.
  • You can ask us to close your account and delete data we are not legally required to keep.

Cookies we set

  • Essential: sign-in session, security and fraud prevention. These cannot be switched off.
  • Preference: remembers your saved searches and cookie choice.
  • Analytics: only set once you accept them in the banner. You can change your mind by clearing your browser storage for this site.

Your rights

  • You can ask for a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, or object to processing.
  • You can withdraw consent for marketing at any time from your account settings.
  • If you are unhappy with how we handled a request you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
